"Hark, the Herald Angels Sing"

Party After Dusk-2

We've been taking some time to unpack the theology behind our favorite Christmas carols. This week we looked at "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." It was written by two theologians: Charles Wesley and George Whitfield.

These men of God were steeped in the scriptures and it poured out of them as they wrote the words to this song. These are some of the scriptural passages referenced in its verses.

Hark! the herald angels sing, (Luke 2:10)
"Glory to the newborn king: (Jeremiah 23:5, 30:9; Isaiah 9:1-7)
Peace on earth, and mercy mild, (Luke 2:14, 1:78)
God and sinners reconciled!" (2 Corinthians 5:18-21; Colossians 1:19-22)
Joyful, all ye nations, rise, (Revelation 21:24; Psalm 67:4, 96:10, 97:1)
