Stability in the Storm

through the new testament acts

Acts 27

As Paul travels for Rome on the open seas he faces a devastating storm. As the other travelers panic, Paul hears from an angel of God that no one's life will be taken by the storm.

“Do not be afraid Paul; you must stand before Cesar. And behold God has granted you all those who sail with you” Acts 27:24

Paul encourages the passengers to be at ease, he had heard from God, and even though the storm would be destructive, their lives would be spared and all would be well.

In the middle of our storms, it is hard to break focus with the waves and wind coming for you. It seems near impossible to outrun or sidestep our problems. In those moments, we must hold tight to Gods promises and his steadfast love.

In the Old Testament, The Prophet Isaiah uses the treacherous waters analogy and it is beautiful and comforting…

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine! When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through rivers they will not overflow you” Isaiah 43:1-2

For those of us who are believers, how sweet is it to hear our Heavenly Father’s words? Breathe in deep the comfort of “You are mine!” and when the waves of life roll in high and the outcome is uncertain, remember God is faithful!

Prayer:

Father God we thank you for your sovereignty. We thank you for the absolute comfort of being yours! Give us comfort in our storms. Holy Spirit, help us to joyfully sing your praises no matter what the season or circumstance. Amen.

“Even In the valley you are faithful. You’re working for our good. You’re working for our good, and for your glory”
